Cantex began in 1998 when two dog enthusiasts, from two different countries met, fell in love and decided to continue their passion together in Canada.
Trish has been involved in the world of pure bred dogs since 1979. She bred Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers under the Paddington prefix. She produced many champions including the number one Wheaten in 1994. She has always been a club participant. She served as Vice President of the SCWTAC and a founding member of the Border Terrier Canada Club as well as heading up the Breed Standard Committee. She also served as Ontario Director for the IGCC for a few years. Trish is a member in good standing of the IGCC and the IGCA as well as a life time member in good standing of the Canadian Kennel Club.
Brenda began her love of Italian Greyhounds in 1993 while she was living in her home state of Texas. She was president of the Abilene Kennel Club and has most recently served on the board as President of the IGCC. Starting in Texas, she trialed her first Italian Greyhound, Bifrost Charlie the Noodle CDX, to #1 I.G. in obedience. She has also trained dogs in tracking and therapy work and has finished several Champions. Brenda is also a member in good standing of the CKC, IGCC and IGCA.
Together, Brenda and Trish have bred many champions. They breed with care and understanding of the qualities that are needed to produce the very best Italian Greyhounds that they can, all the while, paying close attention to the Canadian Standard. Cantex is known for their wonderful tempered dogs and healthy, happy puppies that can also compete very well in the show ring. At Cantex, the numbers are kept low so that all dogs can sleep in the bed :-) and spend very little time in their crates. Dogs at Cantex are companions first and show dogs second. For this reason, we sometimes have young adults available to approved homes. Breeding is an art and a science. It is something that takes years to develop. At Cantex, Brenda and Trish spend hours pouring over pedigrees and watching available stud dogs to find the match for their female that they feel would benefit their breeding program. Of course no match is perfect but making an informed decision is the best place to start. Cantex follows the code of ethics of the IGCC and IGCA when breeding.
Over the last several years, Brenda and Trish have met some wonderful people at shows and have placed some lovely puppies in magnificient homes. Those owners have now become their friends. This has been a very rewarding hobby.
